Director's Notes
The play takes place in a contemporary African American neighborhood
in the older section of the city. This part of the neighborhood
is dominated by the Miracle Churches. They are a row of storefront
churches that line Miracle Row, an affectionate name for the source
of Odetta's livelihood.
The action takes
place in the two Miracle Churches and Odetta's apartment.

Playwright's Notes
In today's multi-cultural society, many wonder why certain inequalities
regarding economic, social class and justice under the law still exist.
Although Americans live in what has been traditionally termed, "A
Melting Pot", the bubbling cauldron may be simply a myth forged
by an invisible matchmaker who has apparently been eluded by the evidence
that races and cultures living side by side have not become acquainted.
This is most apparent in the most ironic of places, urban America.
Despite the
uneasy relations existing between African-American and other cultural
groups, the Black community in the urban areas of America still
struggles to re-evaluate, define and discover itself through the
challenge of the family, religion, day to day economics, misconceptions,
and competing ideologies, all of which shape the mouths of those
who actively and articulately ask, "How shall we live?"
The beauty of this simple question lives in wizened eyes, youthful
aspirations, above-average courage, steadfast faith, and irrepressible
humor. The result of this simple question is we have nowhere to
go but forward. -Sybil Berry (Author)
